On this day: The Alaska Highway was Completed
Tuesday, 28th October 2014 by Ian Brown
On October 28, 1942, the Alaska Highway was completed, Stretching more than 2700km (1700miles) when it was built, it connected the contiguous states to Alaska via a highway through Canada. Once a dangerous and difficult drive over gravel and dirt roads, it is now about 500km shorter due to improvements which shortened many sections, and paved for the whole length; however it's still an epic journey. Here we see the point where it crosses the Yukon/Alaska border.
