On this day: USS Constitution Launched
Tuesday, 21st October 2014 by Ian Brown
On October 21, 1797, the USS Constitution was launched in Boston Harbor. Nicknamed 'Old Ironsides', the vessel has far outlived the 10-15 years that a wooden ship usually lasted in the era, and is in fact the oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat. With regular repair and restoration work she is still able to sail on special occasions, and is open to visitors year round. Photosphere by Ryan Johnson
