Er… it’s been happening for as long as I recall, and certainly not only with the new indoor images.
I read the feed via Bloglines; or rather, I use Bloglines for an indication that you’ve posted something which I need to click through to see, as the image with the feed never (literally; this isn’t an occasional fault) makes sense!
Hi Alex – Thanks for letting us know you’re working on the problem. It’s irregular – sometimes the images is just wrong, sometimes it’s shifted a bit, occasionally it’s right.
We can always click through to view correctly, but some are more click-worthy than others so an RSS fix would be great.
So there has now been a development of sorts thanks to your original message.
We’ve had an outstanding bug open since August last year, but following your comment we tweeted at the Google Maps team, who have just today acknowledged the issue, and have apparently filed it internally as a feature request:
Hopefully this should mean that eventually we will be able to sort the RSS image issue once and for all!
In the meantime, thanks for reading (and for caring enough to leave a comment!)
Alex
Welcome to Google Sightseeing!
Google Sightseeing takes you on a tour of the world as seen from satellite or street views using Google Maps. Our team of authors present weird and wonderful sights as suggested by readers.
Like this site? We published a photo book of the best entries, you should buy a copy.
Why are the images in your RSS feed rarely the same as the real images?
For example, here’s the image for this monkey rackspace post, as seen in your RSS feed: http://i47.tinypic.com/16j4tia.jpg
If it’s deliberate, it’s confusing….. if not, could you please fix?
Thanks.
Hey Andy,
Thanks for pointing this out – we’re aware this issue affects the very new indoor street images, but we haven’t managed to solve it yet unfortunately.
However, now that you’ve pointed it out we’ll take another look!
Thanks for reading,
Alex
