FedEx Forum

Tuesday, 26th April 2005 by James

Reader “Jason Parrish” points out that The Memphis Grizzlies no longer play at the Memphis Pyramid Arena but have now moved to the FedEx Forum which was clearly still being constructed when this photo was taken. You can see that only a quarter or so of the seats have been put in and there are four large white cranes on site (check the shadows!)

Jason also added:

One block North is the famed Beale Street; three blocks north-east you see the Memphis Peaboy Hotel; and finally five blocks north, you’ll see Autozone Park; home of the Memphis Redbirds, AAA farm team of St. Louis Cardinals.

Also check out Mud Island (the big island in the River NW of the new Stadium, or just west of the Pyramid). The attractions worth noting is the scale model of the lower Missippi river (1 inch to 1 mile, if I recall correctly): on the Google map you can easily make out the outline of the Mississippi delta (which is in a large swimming pool representing the Gulf).

The site of the Peabody is not correct in this post. The Peabody, and its famous ducks, are located at 149 Union Ave, Memphis TN. That locate is to the WEST of Autozone Park and The FedEx Forum. The site referred to in the post is a warehouse that changes ownership on a regular basis. Anyone living in Memphis knows this.

The large building to the left of the Forum is the Gibson Gituar plant. An excellent place for blues and strong drinks. Currently it is “the hotspot” in downtown Memphis.
