Earle Naval Weapons Station

Saturday, 21st May 2005 by James

This 2.2 mile long trident off the Northern New Jersey shore is actually Earle Naval Weapons Station. Apparently the pier is capable of providing ammunition to nearly every class of ship operated by the United States Navy and Coast Guard and there’s a few ships docked in this ground level shot.

The view of this weapons station through Terra Server is in black and white, but it does show three large ships docked.

The water looks really cool at the Placemark: mouth of the river / Google Earth just to the southwest, near the beginning of the station.

This weapons station is actually very close to where writer/director Kevin Smith grew up, and in fact the Quick Stop of Clerks fame is just a few minute drive away. Type “Quick Stop” into the local search and you’ll see it. In the film, when Dante and Randall are driving to the funeral home, you can see them drive under an overpass. That overpass is the access road to the Earle Weapons Station.

Detailed information from the Navy about the ENWS is available here.

You must have to be going at a pretty good clip to jump the gaps in that road!
