This is Fort McHenry in Baltimore. It was during the Battle of Baltimore, September 13-14th 1814, that Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the poem “Defence of Fort McHenry” which was later renamed “The Star Spangled Banner” and adopted as the national anthem of the United States.

Churchill Downs race track hosts the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May each year, which means that the 131st Kentucky Derby should be starting in a few hours.

The record for Derby attendance is 163,628 in 1974 and a forecast of 78 degrees and sunny for later today is expected to help draw about 150,000 fans (including Michael Jordan and Usher).

Another Stadium with Large Type in the end zone is the Donald W. Reynolds Stadium. The south end reads “Razorbacks” as this is the home of the Arkansas Razorbacks but the north end seems to read “SAS” – anyone know why?

Update: As a couple of people noted in the comments the north end zone normally reads “Arkansas”. The photo was probably taken as the text was being repainted.
