Hospital Ship

Friday, 10th June 2005 by Alex

This is the Hospital Ship USNS Mercy (T-AH-19) docked in San Diego, California. Apparently this was the ship that provided a great deal of medical aid to the recent tsunami victims. There’s lots more information and good photos available at navsource.org.

I think this counts as large type, don’t you?

Double Drawbridge

Friday, 10th June 2005 by Alex

Here’s a rather nice double drawbridge near the Fort Lauderdale Beach in Florida. The road itself is Sunrise Boulevard (hehe, we don’t have boulevards over here) which sounds like a fake road name if you ask me ;-)

Alien Civilization

Please note that some or all of the objects mentioned in this post are no longer visible on Google Earth or Google Maps.

Brilliant bit of weirdness here… Tom Comeau says:

I believe it’s winter, and we’re seeing snow and ice on the lake surface. But where there’s clear water, something very odd is showing through.

Bridge Over Troubled Water

Friday, 10th June 2005 by Alex

Okay, okay… It’s a weak link but I couldn’t resist. Troubled water? No? Never mind.

Check out this great bridge over a frozen river in Howland, Maine. Actually, Howland appears to be just North of a place which seems familiar somehow…

Bridge and Ice

Also, we seem to be a little short on submissions for Maine. If you’ve got any good sights, please submit them so we can improve on the only two we’ve posted so far, thanks :-)

Thanks to Ben Singleton.

Feelin’ Groovy

Friday, 10th June 2005 by Alex

1, 2, 3…

This is the 59th Street Bridge, New York City. Not hugely interesting to look at, but Simon and Garfunkel sang a really great song about it :-) (and it does have quite a cool shadow too!).

Although I never did understand what was so groovy about it…

Thank you very much to Judith Weiss, you made my day :-D

Casino Windsor

Friday, 10th June 2005 by James

There is a maple leaf painted in the parking lot to the front of the semi-circle shaped Casino Windsor. The large grey structure behind the casino is more parking and is connected by a skybridge.
