Tokyo Tower

Friday, 24th June 2005 by Alex

This is the Tokyo Tower in Japan, which is the world’s tallest self supporting steel structure. Although it seems like everything can be classified as the world’s tallest something… ( I hearby declare myself the world’s third tallest Google Sightseeing Administrator).

The Tokyo Tower is (obviously) based on the Eiffel Tower, but at 333 metres, is 9 metres taller. There’s lots of good info about the tower over at Wikipedia, so we’ll just mention that the first floor houses an aquarium, home to 50,000 fish, and that this was the landmark which was destroyed again and again by Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Guiron, Gamera, and scores of other rubber-monsters.

Here’s that crazy Island-Airport they built in Japan. Its around 180 miles SW of Tokyo.

Wow… that’s pretty ugly. Somebody said, “what this city really needs is a dayglow orange Eiffel Tower knock-off.” Scary.

Maat that’s Kansai Int’l. in Osaka bay. The Airport serves the cities of Osaka (Japan’s second largest city) and Kyoto - the ancient Imperial capital founded during thei Heian period when the capital was known as Heiankyo.

Kansai Int’l is currently sinking - much like Chep Lap Kok Airport, the new Hong Kong Int’l - and they’ve been raising the building with haudryolic jacks to keep the structure level.

Perhaps a weather station, or tsunami warning station? Though it’s a little to far into Yokohama Bay to be the latter.

Maybe it’s the beginning of the Babylon Project :D (Patlabor reference)

It’s called the “Kawasaki Man-Made Island” and is in the middle of an
undersea tunnel across tokyo bay. Apparently they started boring the tunnel
from the island towards each side.
