The Channel Tunnel
Tuesday, 28th June 2005 by James Turnbull
The Channel Tunnel (or "Chunnel" as it's often called) is a 23-mile underwater crossing of the English Channel. The trains go underground here, with the train loading terminal just to the west. There's also a large horse etched into the hill alongside.
The French side of the tunnel at Calais is not in high-resolution but you can still make out the trainlines.
The thumbnail shot is of one of the boring machines used to dig the tunnel, apparently there's a big "FOR SALE, ONE CAREFUL OWNER" sign alongside it.

This is the same spot in “Google Earth”:

This software does even compute topography!
The machine doesn’t look that boring.
xXx: What’s with the ad for google earth? I’m sure we’re all well aware of it.
I rather think the horse is more of a sight than the chunnel, but that’s just me. 😛
HaHaHa… Not boring…Boring as in drilling
if you have a look on the ‘hybrid’ view it shows a line going from the tunnel to the French side. très intéressant!
I just recollected for a second my ferry travel to france when I read this blog. Infact the ferry sailing to France was unforgettable, the services, vessels, facilities, sailing…really delightful on board experience of Norfolkline ferries.
Anyone know where i can find a cheap ferry? Preferably one with a delightful onboard experience?
Certainly not from those spammers at Norfolkline – I hear that throwing customers overboard is standard practice 😀
