The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia is Gaudi’s masterpiece which he started in 1884. It is still under construction and work is expected to be completed around 2024.

Look for the shadow to make out the shape of the towers and see the official site for great ground level shots.

Note the grid layout of the streets. Although common in the New World, this is unusual in European cities, and you’ll notice that in the older parts of Barcelona the streets are not as regular.

This is because Barcelona’s city walls were knocked down in the 1850s to allow for expansion using a street plan designed by local government. This was the first example of urban planning. See http://geographyfieldwork.com/BarcelonaUrbanDetail.htm
