Ne Mutlu Türküm Diyene!
Monday, 15th August 2005 by Alex Turnbull
Deep in the Asian part of Turkey is this giant image of the Turkish flag. The writing (which is Turkey's national slogan), says 'Ne mutlu Türküm diyene', meaning 'How happy is he who can say "I am a Turk"'.
Thanks to Ali Ok.
I did you send a similar place a few days ago, you might want to find it (It’s in Cyprus) and add to this post.
I did send you, of course.

Crazy!
Just last night I was reading a book called Sons of the Conquerors: The Rise of the Turkic World and the author was talking briefly about that motto.
Ataturk, the father of the modern Republic of Turkey, launched a massive campaign of secularization/westernization after Turkey ended up a big loser after World War I. The Ottoman/Muslim’s motto was “Thank God I am a Muslim.” Ataturk changed this slogan to a more nationalistic, secular motto: “How happy is he who can say ‘I am a Turk’”.
Trivia for the day.
Notice that it’s right across the river from Syria. I bet the Syrians can see it from their side.
I am a turk, a proud turk. I love my country and i am happy to be a turk.
