The Berlin Victory Column (Siegessäule) was constructed to celebrate the military successes of Prussia over Denmark. In 1938 Hitler moved it from its place in front of the Reichstag to the centre of Tiergarten where it stands today.

The Victory Column stands at 61.5m high and is topped by the golden statue of the victory goddess Viktoria. In the column’s shadow you can make out shape of the goddess’s wings.

I’m not sure what that oval thing is, but while trying to find it I found the “pregnant oyster” to the north east.

Why does my previous comment with a couple of links in it say “Your comment is awaiting moderation. “? I’ve seen this happen before when posting 2 many posts in a row, but that was my only one in this thread, and my only one today for that matter.

  7. Monasterium says:

The “oval shaped thing” should be the ‘Bundespräsidialamt’, the office of Germany’s Federal President (thats the best translation I could come up with *g*).

Is this balloon(?) tethered to the ground??

  9. Sven says:

The Balloon is hanging on a rope – so it is fixed to the ground. You can get in there and it will go up some meters (you’ve got a good few then). It is sponsored by the german TV-Company “Sat.1″ (www.sat1.de) and coloured like their logo.
