Steel Dinosaurs

G J Oliver’s Industrial Steel factory has a collection of unusual pets in the back garden; giant Steel Dinosaurs. Under the order of Mr Oliver himself the prehistoric creatures are created in spare moments by company employee Woody Hauser, who bases the design on rubber dinosaurs provided by his boss.

So far the collection is made up of a T-Rex to the East, a Apatosaurus (the correct name for what we like to call Brontosauruses) to the West and between them, just a little to the North, a caveman. (These ground level photos also show a Triceratops somewhere in the area, but I can’t spot it in the satellite pic).

The models take about 6-9 months each to design and build yet Mr. Hauser is expecting to continue production for as long as there’s slow days at work.

Thanks: Alex

Don’t forget Rex and Dinny, the giant dinosaurs in Cabazon, California:

Apparently the venue has been purchased by fundamentalist Christians who use it to teach visitors that the earth is 6,000 years old and that dinosaurs co-existed with man and even were on Noah’s ark.

I’m pretty sure that this [ Placemark: Google Maps / Google Earth ] is your stegosaurus, based on the background of the photo.

  3. Tim says:

Hmm, looks right even though there is no sign of the dinosaur. He IS under two trees in the photo.

Now, um, when were these made? I ask ‘cuz that’s a pretty out-of-date image of a tyrannosaurus. Anyone who saw Walking With Dinosaurs would know what I mean. Best thing to come out of the UK in recent years!

  4. woowoowoo says:

ahh - that’d be a Triceratops, not a Stegosaurus and I think you’ll find it’s Placemark: over here / Google Earth, based on the configuration of the roof in the background of the ground shot.

  5. James says:

What was I thinking? Thanks woowoowoo, It’s clearly a Triceratops, my Dinosaur identifying skills must be lacking!

Now that I think about it, is that really a Brontosaurus? Could it be a Diplodocus or a Brachiosaurus?

hmmm, i was thinking the triceratops was right here:
Placemark: Google Maps / Google Earth
on the edge of the parking lot, between two trees.

  7. Alex says:

I reckon pooms has got it…

  8. Frank Taylor says:

Yes, ‘pooms’ has got it. In Google Earth it’s quite clear the Triceratops is by the parking lot. The two telephone poles in the ground-level photograph confirm it.
