Kim Il-Sung

Monday, 27th February 2006 by James

North Korea’s former dictator, Kim Il-Sung (Kim Jong-Il’s father) is held in very high esteem, as shown by this absolutely gigantic bronze statue of the “Eternal Leader” who died in 1994.

This ground level photo should give you an idea of the sheer scale of the monument, where couples visit to lay a wreath just before they get married.

The bigger the statue the bigger the criminal

What has always freaked me out about NK is that there are all these freeways everywhere, but hardly ever any traffic. Most of the streets are empty.

If you follow where the “road” points across the river from the statue in the above link, you arrive here.

I think these are the three symbols of the NK commie party. Hammer, Sickle, and artist’s brush. This might be a ground view here.

Yes, I’m certain of it. You can see the signs on top of the buildings to the east just like the photo.

Fun fact: It’s illegal to take pictures of the statue from behind.

I would suggest the roads are there to drive tanks down, thats why all the roads in (West) Germany leading east are great.

For some reason North Korea reminds me of the Woody Allen Film Sleeper.
