Here on Two Tree Island, England, our submitter has actually managed to spot an individual person, flying a radio controlled aeroplane! The plane is easy enough to see, and the person is identifiable by the person-shaped shadow extending north.

With the increased resolution of Google Local, people are submitting increasingly tiny things for us to post, but so far, I believe this one takes the biscuit. Very cool.

More info at the South Essex Model Aircraft Society website.

The Angel of the North

The 20m tall Angel of the North is the work of artist Anthony Gormley, who had the stature cast entirely out of steel. Standing in Gateshead on the A1 road from London to Edinburgh the angel has a 54m wingspan and can be seen for miles (ground level shots).

It was erected in 1998 when there was many protests from people who disliked it and thought it was a waste of money. I visited the angel not long after and when we got up close I recall being very impressed, although after being squished in the back of a car with my brother for 3 hours I was probably just grateful for the chance to stretch my legs ;-)

Here’s an excellent sight of some Powerkiters doing their thing on a windy day in Southend-on-Sea, England. I wonder if they’re landboarding, or maybe even buggying?

Bridgewater Hall

Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall was designed by Arup in conjunction with the University of Salford. As a city centre concert venue it has been entirely mounted on springs to alleviate noise from the nearby tramline. Look to the north of the building for a small white dot which is a giant polished Marble monolith made by Kan Yasuda in his Italian workshop.

This is Whipsnade Wild Animal Park in Bedfordshire, England. Whipsnade is one of Europe’s largest wildlife conservation parks – it’s home to more than 2,500 animals, many of which are endangered in the wild.

Thanks to Google’s new upgraded imagery, several different species of animals can be seen within the grounds. Unfortunately I can’t seem to work out what any of them are… even when I compare them to their publicity shots!

Wait a minute…

I’ve got one! I’m pretty sure it’s a Lion, right?
