Obviously not aliens, as this is the plug to empty the North Sea.
May I be the first to welcome our new Doughnut Overlords.
It is aliens, or martians to be more exact, in the form of Tory spokesman John Redwood. He wants to build houses in The Wash, and this is clearly the ptototype: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=OUFH1UCF5UUF3QFIQMFCFFWAVCBQYIV0?xml=/news/2006/06/14/nhome14.xml
OK. OK……all kidding aside. What IS it..? I really appreciate this site and love the collaborative efforts to puzzle out little mysteries like this one. What could it be? Weather balloon? “Non-terrestrial officers”?
I’m a professor in Bromatology at the University of Holland, and I can say for a certainty that this is indeed a giant Doughnut. In conjunction with Dunkin Doughnuts we have been conducting experiments into baking giant doughnuts for years.
A couple of years ago a sample of our “giant, lighter” doughnuts that we were baking on the Holland coastline accidentally broke free and floated over to Britain. It was destroyed by the RAF in a controlled explosion.
“Trial Bank”
Picture map
“1972: a feasibility study commissioned by the Government to build a barrage across half of The Wash to capture the freshwater from the four main rivers, to improve navigation through sea locks, to provide recreational facilities and an area of land for a power station, etc. was undertaken. This led to the circular trial bank/bund being built to the east of Sutton Bridge and the Nene. The purpose of which was to act as reservoirs but the report concluded it would be too costly. “
…but I like the big donut better…
Is it not the waves of a small meteor having just hit earth?
Mother Nature’s Nipple.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm doughnuts
I think it actually is a hot-air balloon.
The Doughnut Overlords are preparing a dessert alliance with the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
watercirles?
I think it may be some sort of concrete structure for mooring boats or it may be a large piece of wood that has fallen off a boat or something- the pale colour is probably due to moss etc. growing on it.
^–kjfitz is correct, it is in fact a “trial bank,” apparently some sort of reservoir to catch the fresh water coming from the Nene River into The Wash. But it is almost impossible to find any info on it. I would love to see a picture of it but from what I can tell the only picture on the net is the one kjfitz provided. There has got to be another pic of it somewhere…
I have actually walked out to the smaller one to the south-east of it, (I lived in the village to the south), and that one is just a small hill full of rabbit droppings! I’ve always heard from the villagers that they were going to try to make a reservoir but didn’t get very far. I always meant to take a boat out there one day…
The first thing that came to mind was the footage Matin Stubbs captured from a Nasa feed (20 minutes in):

What the hell is it? It just seems completely random and out of place. And why is the water its in all multicoloured?
The image resolution on this has been dramatically improved.
If anything it is even weirder when you zoom in close.
there’s someone on it! if you scroll south (still on the island/doughnut/experiment) and you zoom in, there appears to be a person on it (or some kind of tri-point camera work) 😀
I actually went out in the pilot boat from Sutton Bridge with the pilots who guide the ships into the River Nene. I asked them about Trial Bank as i’d seen it on a map. They confirmed it was built as a freshwater reservoir in the 70’s but the plan was abandoned as too costly. From the side view it has a raised outer rim. It is currently inhabited by sea birds and seals. Not much info available but this site has a bit http://www.washestuary.org.uk/ and here http://www.fenlandlincs.com/Scottwalk
Looks like it’s been updated – much more detail now visible
The updated picture is a far cry from the picture posted here. The original looks eerie, nipple, plug, pimple, alien or a crater! Or you wont know whether it is floating or not. The updated detailed picture shows the texture of the whatever it is and we have much more reason to panic!!!
