Please note that some or all of the objects mentioned in this post are no longer visible on Google Earth or Google Maps.

Aliens have been trying to communicate with us puny humans for years now, usually via the confusing medium of drawing circles in Britain’s fields.

But a recent trend shows them branching out into more direct forms of communication with actual words being carved into our crops.

Of course they haven’t fully developed a grasp of our primitive languages, as seen in this example of childishly rude crop writing just beside Edinburgh Airport.

What, oh mighty alien lifeforms, are you trying to tell us?

Here is something spooky. The link Michi posts above leads you to a field with the name ‘EMA’ drawn in it. Although i suspect its an illiterate girl called Emma by amazing coincedence someone over at the Addis Ababa airport crash thread has just made a post going by the name Ema. http://googlesightseeing.com/2006/12/08/addis-ababa-bole-airport-crash/comment-page-2/#comment-87875

What are the chances of that eh?

  7. James says:

    Spooky!

Although the Google Earth forum seems to think it says “EMO”, not Ema :-/

Ah yes – i believe EMO to be a youth subculture favoured by sensitive young floppy haired types. I would say however that this part of South Yorkshire isnt overflowing with Emos and it is more likely to someone who struggles to spell his own girlfriends name! According to my mate the estate to the east is pretty rough and any Emo would have their skinny trousered hides chased out of town.

Incidentally just to the west is Orgreave which was the location of the infamous battle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Battle_of_Orgreave

and to the south west is a charming little place called Crystal Peaks which sounds less like a former mining village and more like an ‘adult movie’ star!
