Nature Calls
Friday, 23rd March 2007 by Alex Turnbull
I suppose it had to happen eventually, but a submitter (who actually asked to remain anonymous!), thinks they may have found the first Google Earth image of... someone doing something which we must all do at least once a day.1
Yes, it looks a lot like this man is answering nature's call on a lonely path, here in Mali, Africa.
While we're going to remain on the fence for at least a while, we hope you lot are ready to weigh in on this one!

No, I don't mean checking the Google Sightseeing RSS feed! ↩︎
He’s not taking a wizz, he’s just walking.. You can see the shadow of his bend leg.
Aha, he’s just walking.
It’d be rather uncool of him to wiz in the middle of the path, which is probably used mostly by him and his friends and relatives.
Yeah, he’s just walking. Definately. I mean, who would – ummm – jettison right on a footpath and with a leg bent like this?
I feel disappointed in some way, but I shouldn’t – I mean, would I really want to see somebody doing – ummm – that? But don’t give up! More areas are being covered in high resolution, and I’m sure we’ll find something even more interesting soon. Have you ever thought of registering “googlevoyeur.com”?
From looking at the shadow, it looks like he’s trying to advertise for Captain Morgan.
Have you ever wizzed like that? Well I have, and I for 1 don’t want to pee on my shoe. If I’m looking at it right he’s on a bit of a hill…. so he’s going to pick up the “walking” leg, to avoid drips.
Pure logic really.
So isn’t anyone else curious about why there is this one little hi-res rectangle in the middle of nowhere? Also, zoom out a few clicks and then try to zoom back in. You can’t get back to the original zoom level! What’s up with that?
Pierre, the explanation is that these images are part of the National Geographic African Megaflyover Project, which we posted about a couple of weeks ago. It explains the zoom issue, and also has some links to some of the project’s highlights 🙂
edit: I’ve also just noticed that today’s “One year ago today” link in our sidebar is to the stunning Victoria Falls post from 23rd March 2006 — another sight only visible thanks to the Megaflyover Project.
in such a need, I would prefer to face a tree or a bush but there !!
I must say, i’ve taken a wizz in the middle of nowhere before and its quite liberating not having to go against a tree/bush. So maybe he is enjoying that freedom.
Maybe. But it looks like regular walking to me.
Can you say “linkbait”? Heh, sensationalizing to get attention, useful trick. We’re all guilty of it at one point or another. Fun stuff.
Maybe he was looking for this:

(Shamelessly stolen from http://www.theregister.co.uk/)
if you have google earth, zoom out just slightly and you will see another clear patch, then you can follow a whole winding trail of clear squares, must be a flight path
I can’t believe no one has noticed but just to the left this bloke seems to have whizzed a little message on the ground

its so funny what you all fantasise about. i see simply a man walking. i mean guys, imagin a low üassing airplane flying over your head, while you are doing what ever you think this man is doing. wouldnit you at least have a look above?
honestly… i’d continue peeing.
