Street View Roundup
Friday, 1st June 2007 by Alex Turnbull
The interest in Google's new Street View mode has been incredible, and there's been coverage of it everywhere1 - meaning that lots of other sites have posted stuff before we did, including:
E.T. spotted in a field - with a laser beam it seems:
A vehicle caught speeding:
A reflection of one of the vans used to capture all of these images:
A guy caught leaving a strip club:
A guy caught going into an adult book store:
A shot of a person who happened to bend over at an unfortunate moment:
The Boing Boing story2 of how someone found their cat on Street Views:
...and many others - in fact there's also been a number of new sites springing up which have begun to collect these Street View locations, including streetviewr.com, LaudonTech, streetviewvoyeur.com, Streetview Notables and there's a Wired page collecting them too.
Of course here at GSS, we'll continue to provide you the cream of the crop of Street Views, alongside our regularly scheduled programming!
Thanks to everyone who has submitted one of these sights, and to all the sites who are collecting them.

Including James being interviewed on Radio 5 Live last night (skip to just before 1h 55m). ↩︎

The whole thread is funny, but I thought the inevitable LOLcatting was hyterical. ↩︎
That’s no laser beam. That’s a light saber!
Can I leave a comment?
No, James, you’re not allowed. Find us more sights! 😀
To address concerns of privacy and for the sake of operating system competition I wrote a post on the Google Maps Zoom Feature and what it could be renamed.
LOLs. Thanks Dan, we’ve been having some server issues and I was seeing if the server could handle a comment 😀
You might like Virtual Tourism. It has managed to embed street view within a developer Google Map and has begun a map with these views embedded.
That guy going into the adult book store, is it just me or does he look like a cop?
I added a list of “Google Street View” here : http://www.geo-trotter.com/cat-street-view.php.
Here is a site that has a large selection of StreetView finds:

Here’s a huge collection and toplist: the best street view sightings
Do any of you guys know how old a fox is able to get?
Is there somewhere that logs the dates and times the streetview photos were captured? I hope to match up the google-van’s location with my own whereabouts during a recent trip to New York.
