The World’s Largest Gantry Crane
Saturday, 30th July 2005 by James Turnbull
The 7,560 tonne world's largest gantry crane at Kockums AB shipyard in Malmö, Sweden also has the world's largest lifting capacity of 1,500 tonnes. If you're in Sweden don't bother trying to go and see it though as in 2002 the crane was sold to Hyundai Heavy Industries who dismantled it, painted it orange and shipped it off to their Offshore Fabrication Yard in Ulsan, South Korea.
The yellow floating crane to the northwest took part in the dismantling process, which you can see from the ground in these numerous photos. You can also see the Kockums crane at its new South Korean home in this photo.
And while we're on a roll with the big cranes scroll a few screens east for the largest floating crane in the world.
Many thanks to Lars Persson & Rickard Jensen
Are you sure that’s a gantry crane and not an overhead crane? I think the cranes on the banks of the channel to the east are gantry cranes.
I only know what the intarweb tells me.
The cranes on that picture are a special version of gantry cranes called Portainer crane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portainer). Hyundai writes on their web that it is a gantry crane, I think they know.
Don’t try to see the floating crane either since it left Malmoe some weeks ago sailing down to Egmond aan Zee in Netherlands, where it will be used to build an offshore wind farm.
man them cranes are gettin’ the hell outta dodge
Slightly OT, but today F1 drivers are set to race in Hungary, so here’s the Hungaroring circuit.
Hyundai is in SOUTH Korea. 😉
Reminiscent of the shipyard level in Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4!
Largest floating crane in the world? Thought the biggest floating crane is in Dubai Drydocks with a capacity of 2000 ton!!! Try to beat that with a other floating crane
The Svanen which is featured above is (was?) the biggest floating crane in the world with a lifting capacity of 8700 ton.
The largest floating crane in the world belongs to Saipem. It has twin 7,500t revolving cranes and has actually lifted a structure weighing 14,500 tons. What you see in the photo above is not a floating crane, but a gantry crane. Floating cranes are barge mounted.
may I know who owns floating crane in dubai. Pl. provide the contact details of the owner. Thanks
